ON THE OCASSION OF THE SPANISH NATIONAL DAY, THE SPANISH EMBASSY IN QATAR CELEBRATED AN OFFICIAL RECEPTION ON OCTOBER 12

Around 500 people from the local community, Diplomatic corps, Spanish Business Council members and the Spanish community attended the event at the Ritz Carlton Doha Hotel to celebrate Spain’s National Day.

The Minister of Youth and Sports H.E Mr. Salah Bin Ghanim Naser Al Ali and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Bin Hasan Al Hamadi jointly cut the cake with the Spanish Ambassador to Qatar H.E. Mr. Ignacio Escobar to mark the occasion.

The Spanish Business Council helped the Spanish Embassy with the event organization with nineteen companies also sponsoring the event.

The Companies which sponsored the event were:

SBCQ Members Breakfast / NGL Conference

On September 20th, the members of the Spanish Business Council had the opportunity to meet in a relaxed atmosphere during a breakfast meeting that was held at Marriott Marquis hotel before the conference given by Noble Global Logistics (NGL), member of the SBCQ. For this event, around 35 members attended.

Subsequently, the conference about “Logistics Challenges in Qatar” given by ING, took place. The topics covered alternative routes by sea, air, and the present situation at Hamad Port as well as the impact of the crisis on the companies. About 50 people attended the presentation.

SBCQ in the Back2Business event

The SBCQ participated, once again, in the “back 2 business event”.

The event was held on October 24th at the Hotel Rotana and was attended by more than 300 professionals. At least ten trade associations operating in Doha, in partnership with the Qatar Financial Center, brought together business leaders and decision-makers involved in Qatar's major economic projects and sectors at the latest edition of the “Back to Business Qatar”.

This event had been running in Qatar for 13 years, connecting international businessmen and decision-makers from the most prevalent business sectors in Qatar.

Another successful Summer

The over two-month-long Qatar Summer Festival Entertainment City was concluded on September 5th, which was successfully hosted at DECC for the 2nd time & attracted around 145,000 visitors. The 4th Mindsports championship was also part of the QSF and included competitions like: Scrabble, Chess, Go and e-Sports.

PINSENT MASONS OPENED AN OFFICE IN MADRID ON 1st MAY 2017

Given the strong relationships it has developed with the Spanish contracting industry, this is something that Pinsent Masons have been working towards for some time. It has brought together a founding team of seven partners and ten lawyers to develop a practice around the firm's global sectors of infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and technology and financial services.

Madrid will be the firm's 21st office and comes within 12 months of the firm opening an energy-focused office in Dusseldorf and energy and infrastructure-focused practice in Johannesburg.

The Madrid office will include specialist infrastructure lawyers. In particular two of the partners comprise Sofia Parra and Ricardo Garcia. Ricardo joins from OHL where he had significant experience in the infrastructure sector acting on major projects around the world.

Pinsent Masons believes that the opening in Madrid will enable it to be even better connected to serve its Spanish clients.

SACYR CONSOLIDATES ITS ACTIVITY IN QATAR

Sacyr is bidding in the Road & Drainage program, among other Ashgal projects in Qatar, in order to consolidate Sacyr Construcción's presence in the Middle East as a growth target in construction, industrial and water activities, where it brings its experience and capacity for innovation.

Sacyr Construcción, in conjunction with Combined Group Company, completed recently its first project in Qatar: development of a semi-urban zone spanning 152 hectares in Bani Hajer that involved the provision of utilities services to more than 660 plots of land, 4 schools, 5 mosques and 6 retail areas; a 101km sanitation network was laid and 5 rainwater runoff tanks were built to prevent flooding.

The same consortia is completing the works of the urbanisation, roadway and infrastructure construction works of the Northern and Eastern zones of Al Khessa (package 1), in the municipality of Al Dayeen, 10 km north of Doha.

Sacyr Construcción and UCC are carring out the sewerage works on plots A and B in the QEZ 1 development area (Ras Bufontas) including the connection from the Ashgal valve chamber, through Ras Bufontas to the wastewater treatment plant at Hamad International Airport and the construction of a new sewer collector of 2.7 km, 30 wells, a new pumping station and a discharge pipeline, the reconstruction of the existing valve chamber, the diversion of 3 pipes; the construction of the air valve, transition, and pumping flow measurement chambers, among other works. Sacyr is already designing and building QEZ-1 (Qatar Economic Zone 1) development projects in Ras Bufontas.

TERRATEST QATAR COMPLETE CRITICAL DRIVE FOR ASHGHAL PROJECT IN ZOUQ AREA WITH RECORD TIME

As part of the specific appointment of the client, Terratest Qatar LLC has been requested to complete a high risk drive in the heart of Zouq, due to the urgent deadline and the soil instability detected (Not compacted backfilling).

The drive has been completed with high performance with very low disturbance of this critical area representative of Doha, solving another challenge for the Project team in Qatar.

The tunnel is a 1.4 m OD diameter and 200 lm length drive, completed successfully in close coordination with client and consultant and direct supervision of ASHGHAL to secure the correct completion as the committed schedule.

TERRATEST QATAR COMPLETE THE LAST DRIVE OF NEW PUMPING STATION PS16N AND INTERCEPTOR SEWER PROJECT

Terratest Qatar consider completed the micro-tunneling works with the last drive of 2.4 m diameter in Oryx Rotana area. The drive of 200 m long and 23 m depth has been successfully completed with high pressure groundwater level and the logical difficulties of the reduced wor king space available.

Has been two year of hard work for completion of a complex project of more than 7,7 km of micro-tunneling with depths up to 24 m in urban area with logistic and space difficulties.

H.E. Mr. MOHAMMED AL KUWARI, AMBASSADOR OF QATAR IN SPAIN VISITED ZITRON

On September 7th, H. E Mr. Mohammed Al Kuwari, Ambassador of Qatar in Spain, visited Zitron facilities in Asturias, Spain, where he met with Mr. Antonio Fernández-Escandón, CEO of the Company. ZITRON is the Tunnel Ventilation System supplier approved for Metro Doha Project in Qatar.
